Murdered For Royalty At Oodlabari

A very shameful incident happened at around 2pm on 20th December, 2017 at Oodlabari.

Md. Elias (34) was killed by Afazuddin Sarkar just for their conflict royalty purpose in Ghish River reported by Uttarbanga Sampad.

The murdered took place over the lifting of stones from Ghish Riverbed.

Oodlabari residents Afazuddin Sarkar and his son Sohail Sarkar are government approved licence for lifting stones and gravel from the Ghish River. Md. Elias, who was also a resident of Oodlabari, went to the riverbed with some aides and started lifting stones. A dispute broke out between them over this, during which Sohail Sarkar stabbed Elias in the stomach. His friend Md. Sauban was left injured as he tried to resist the attack. They two were rushed to a nearby hospital, where Elias died.

Outraged by this, family and friends of deceased Md. Elias attacked the house of the Sarkar’s on Wednesday and tortured two motorbikes and a car . As the violence spread, shopkeeper downed shutters and people hurried to safety.

Leaning about this, a large police force led by Jalpaiguri SP Amitabha Maiti rushed to Oodlabari and Section 144 of the CrPC was imposed by the District Magistrate to bring the situation under control.
