Trinamool Aid To Closed Tea Gardens In Dooars

In Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar districts, Trinamool leaders have projected an investor in Assam to control the closure of Redbank and Surendranagar Tea Estates.

The Trinamool-backed Tea Trade Union has consolidated the management of Sylee Tea Estate in Malbazar block of Jalpaiguri to reopen the garden on 18th February.

The garden was closed for about a month and a half.

Observers believe that this is the party’s plan to accelerate the vote bank in the Dooars as the panchayat elections are upcoming. Trinamul wants to reopen all the tea gardens before the panchayat election in the dooars.

Earlier, some local Trinamool leaders had succeeded in getting an investor to run the closed Carron Tea Estates in Nagrakata Block of Jalpaiguri on an interval basis.

“Recently, a prospective investor of Assam visited the three closed tea gardens of the Redbank Group. The state has already canceled the land lease of the gardens. He has agreed to seize these estates and spoken with officials of the district administration. We hope that other necessary formalities will be done soon. ” Sourav Chakraborty, Jalpaiguri district Trinamool president, said.

State Labor Department Officials said they were also interacting with some tea companies and potential investors.
